The Trend Tent at Merrick Park
By Jen Karetnick
August 20, 2006

September is fashion confusion in South Florida. The boutiques bombard us with the new fall trends when it’s still too sticky outside to even want to try them on, let alone think about wearing them. So we don’t bother to pay attention, really. But then we find ourselves with trips to New York on the horizon and empty suitcases, along with vacant, out-of-vogue minds. What’re subtropical It Girls supposed to do?

It’s simple: Attend the first-ever Merrick Park Trend Show for a guided preview of the upcoming season’s hottest looks, such as skinny pants, booties, trench coats and the exuberant color red, which will be splashed everywhere for Fall. And yes, it’s one-stop shopping, in a way -- the show will feature items culled from the shops at Merrick Park, including Etro, Roberto Cavalli, Loro Piana, Luca Luca and La Perla. Click here for your personal invitation.

Held in a tent that is designed to look like a woman’s closet, the presentation is not simply window dressing, however, with models flashing designs at you. Instead, local fashion guru Godfrey -- who has organized major events and appearances for designers such as Badgley Mischka, Carolina Herrera, Thierry Mugler and Angel Sanchez -- will explain each piece, discuss which body type should wear what, and explore pairings.

And the coolest part, literally? The tent is air-conditioned. So it not only looks like autumn inside, it feels like it, too.
