Mimosas & Manicures on Sundays
By Francesca DuPont
April 9, 2006

Sunday has always felt like the perfect day for hair and nail maintenance. There’s no pressure to shop, finish errands or work on the tan (we did that Saturday), so why oh why are so many nail salons closed on the only afternoon we finally have time to enjoy them!? Monday, we understand. But Sunday? Come on! For many of us, it’s the only “me” time we have.

Thankfully, Lace Nail Lab has launched a special “Mimosas & Manicures” promotion on Sunday afternoons from 11 to 5. Book any nail service—manicure ($17) or pedicure ($33)—as the staff tops off your flask of mimosa after mimosa after mimosa. Plan far enough in advance (i.e., call ahead for appointments), and you and your five best girl friends can take over the salon at once.

Lace’s owner, Anna Elizabeth, is a California-born model/actress who had long commuted from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Miami for work. Accustomed to “cool nail salons like The Paint Shop and Hands On in LA,” she scoured South Beach in vain for the variety of chic, nails-only shops she frequented back home. No such luck. So three years ago, she gave up Hollywood for good, settled in South Beach and opened a neighborhood salon specializing in nails, waxing and skincare. Her inspiration for the name? A vintage piece of Valentino lace. She and designer Doug Meyer turned the 800-square-foot West Avenue space into a chic, über-pink nail studio awash in pearly white plexiglass walls, leather Barcelona pedicure chairs and silver snakeskin-textured accents. Never has there been a better backdrop for champagne and chitchat. And don’t worry about all that bubbly turning French tips askew: The nail technicians are meticulous as ever—they don’t touch a drop.
