NY Fitness Formula Moves In

Equinox Fitness Clubs, the health hub for Manhattan's style set, is now sizzling with two Miami locations. Both clubs--there’s one in South Beach and another anchoring the Village of Merrick Park--tap into total wellness. The sprawling fitness floor is lined with state-of-the-art machines, plasma TVs and a separate space for each specialty class, such as ABsolutely Ripped, (zeroing in on those abs) and Jump Start (those are springs under that hardwood floor used for 25 minutes of high energy, interval work followed by strength training.)
There’s also yoga (think: blankets, mats and blocks) and spinning (where the bikes are lined immaculately and waiting with pillowed towels.)
Prefer to get more personal? New members get two complimentary training sessions from the top in fitness talent. That means customized exercise programs designed to meet your specific fitness goals.
You can also increase circulation in the spa, with a dizzying array of treatments including a deep tissue massage and micro dermabrasion. The on-site shop, meanwhile, is stocked with a heart-pumping selection of street and sports wear, from brands such as Splendid, Lacoste, Mari Dade and Velvet. Also find a café serving up fruit smoothies, custom salads, cappuccino and protein shakes.
In the Merrick Park place, dive into the cool, chlorinated lap pool, and parents, say “hooray” for the Kids’ Club packed with computers, games and a full-staff of supervision.
It’s hard to leave, we know, which is probably why they provide internet access (look for the Equinet Station,) in case members decide to visit the outside world. It could happen, you know.
