Karen Piazza’s Holiday Party to benefit Women of Tomorrow

Karen Piazza’s friends can always count on her yearly holiday bash being at a new and unexpected venue. . .and always on the heels of Art Basel. This year’s luncheon was held at Chelsea Galleria, owned by Dorothy Long and Tina Spiro, and located in the heart of artsy Wynwood. Underwritten by Coscan Homes, the party was attended by more than 80 of the town’s most interesting and philanthropic women. This year’s event benefited Women of Tomorrow Mentor and Scholarship Program, founded in 1997 by television journalist Jennifer Valoppi and Telemundo President and CEO Don Browne to inspire, motivate and empower at-risk young women in our public high schools. Karen Piazza is a mentor in this program, and thanks to the donations made by the ladies at the luncheon, 2 young women from the program will be sent to college.

Ken Lyon of Lyon and Lyon is a favorite caterer of Karen’s, and they worked hand-in-hand turning the gallery into a White Wonderland. Noted floral designer Katherine Parrish of Parrish Design London placed Manzaneta branches with clusters of orange gerber daisies on each table, adding a “Wow Factor” to the gallery. The food was Lyon and Lyon sensational with a fabulous dessert bar, including everything from traditional chocolate mousse and bread pudding to poached pears, and – the pièce de résistance – a 5-foot high tree filled with Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Women of Tomorrow is believed to be the only program of its kind in the country, pairing extremely accomplished professional women with small groups of teenage girls for a 4-year mentoring program. They meet monthly and discuss a variety of topics, including study habits, school work, communication skills, anger management, etiquette, ambitions, hopes, positive attitudes necessary for success, and practical solutions to life’s problems.
