Party in the Park
University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Village of Merrick Park, along with nearly 500 friends, started the holiday season off with a bang at the first ever Party in the Park. The festivities took place in the garden, centered around the holiday tree, where guests dined on stylish foods provided by South Florida's finest restaurants. Southern Wine & Spirits generously provided libations and introduced its new vodka - Imperia.
Party in the Park co-chairs Kim Wood and Rick Morgan planned a fun-filled evening with exciting entertainment and a unique, interactive raffle. Tara Gilani, The Trend Tracker, emceed, and Elaine Lancaster opened the program with her rendition of "I Will Survive." Bobby Collins, a nationally renowned comedian, performed especially for the group, and, to cap off a great evening, Brandon Fine Furniture hosted dessert for the guests.
Friends for Sylvester guests included Coral Gables Mayor Don Slesnick, Donna Tallon, Merrick Park's General Manager; Joaquin Blaya; Judy and John Schulte; Denny and Paul Feinsilver; Shirley and Jon Alexiou; Faye and Sid Bochner; Joan and David Scheiner; Mark and Suzanne Levitats; and many more. Friends for Sylvester is a group of involved community leaders who are committed to the ongoing search for a cancer cure and who act as ambassadors for UM/Sylvester. Each pledges $10,000 to be paid over a maximum of 10 years.
