At NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale’s elegant Chairman’s Circle Dinner on March 11, hosted by Vontobel Swiss Wealth Advisors AG, the museum unveiled an exciting gift to its permanent collection — a major painting by renowned artist Julian Schnabel that was generously donated to the museum by his former wife, the actress and model, Olatz Schnabel. Her gift followed the museum’s recent successful presentation of the exhibition, Café Dolly: Picabia, Schnabel, Willumsen, which featured Julian Schnabel’s paintings, and also recognized the long-term support of his work by Bonnie Clearwater, NSU Art Museum Director and Chief Curator Bonnie Clearwater. The large-scale 1997 painting, titled Portrait of Olatz Schnabel, will be on view at the museum through November 1 along with four other paintings by Julian Schnabel on loan from Olatz Schnabel’s collection.

The festive evening, which included cocktails and an art-inspired dinner in the museum’s stylish second-floor Curve, also celebrated the opening of the museum’s exhibition Pablo Picasso: Painted Ceramics and Works on Paper. Made possible with support from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Berger Singerman, and Eugene and Paula Stevens, the exhibition features works created by Picasso from 1931-71, among them exceptional ceramics, etchings, aquatints and linocuts from the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale collection.
