At the 31st annual Love and Hope Ball, nearly 600 guests arrived on red carpet, bedazzling and bejeweled, for an evening of Hollywood Glamour. Held in late February at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood, FL, the extraordinary affair in combination with December’s Preview Party raised more than $800,000 for the cure-focused work of the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI).
After passing through the red velvet ropes and enjoying a sumptuous cocktail hour, revelers spilled into a beautiful room of glitz, glamour, silver and lights. La Mystique entertained with three dance numbers, each with a fabulous costume change, before pulling guests out onto the floor to cut a rug to the sounds of the Sol Varon Orchestra.
During the dinner program, emcee Bob Soper, CBS4’s chief meteorologist, introduced some of the evening’s true “celebrities,” including the Honorary Chairmen Sheikh Tarek and Sheika Kareeman Al-Fassi, Humanitarian Honorees Deborah and Dr. William J. Rand, Love Honoree Kathryn Nicolosi, Hope Honoree Claudine Smurfit, Silver Star Florence Frank, and Preview Party Underwriter Isabel May. Before the party resumed, special thanks were offered to sponsors Saks Fifth Avenue and National Distributing Company, and then Life Chairman Sonja Zuckerman recited her time-honored phrase, “Let’s eat, drink and have a ball!”
