Alex Pinelo, vice president of key accounts at Norwegian Cruise Line, and Casey Munck, manager of marketing communications at global travel and technology company Amadeus, have been respectively named the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2015 Miami Man & Woman of the Year.

Pinelo and Munck are part of a select group of honored individuals — Champions of Hope — who are nominated by their peers. They are dynamic, passionate, and sometimes competitive and come from both social and business communities. The 2015 Miami Champions of Hope participated in a 10-week fundraising effort for LLS in which every dollar raised counts as a “vote.” Pinelo successfully raised more than $200,000 for LLS; Munck raised more than $100,000 for LLS. Our 2015 Miami Champions of Hope raised a combined $500,000 for LLS.

LLS is a nonprofit organization devoted to funding breakthrough research and the acceleration of innovative, life-saving treatments. LLS also provides community based support groups and financial assistance programs for patients and their families, and advocates and mobilizes grassroots support to influence state and federal laws and regulations to ensure all blood cancer patients get access to the treatments and care they need.

“We are extremely grateful for the efforts of our 2015 Miami Champions of Hope to raise funds and awareness for LLS,” said Jenifer Marquart, Man and Woman of the Year Director for the South Florida Chapter of LLS. “These dedicated leaders have helped LLS to invest more than $1 billion to accelerate innovative, life-saving treatments that just yesterday were beyond our imagination.”

Miami Man & Woman of the Year Leadership Committee Chairs are Ms. Irene Korge and Mr. Keith St. Clair. Honorary Chairs for the 2015 Man & Woman of the Year are Mr. Michael Parrish of Aon Risk Solutions, and Ms. Michelle Fee of Cruise Planners-American Express Travel.

The 2015 Champions of Hope are raising funds in honor of our 2015 Miami Boy and Girl of the Year. These honored children are blood cancer survivors, now excelling in school and leading healthy lives: Read about them here.
