Mad for Mod Ball Brings The Community Together

Benefiting Doctors Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit

Founders Society members and ball chairs Keith Hechtman, M.D. & Ilien Hechtman

The spirit of the 1960s was captured in the US Century Bank Arena at Florida International University at Doctors Hospital’s Mad for Mod Ball. Galaxy Productions transformed the arena, and more than 800 guests shimmied with go-go dancers, dined among gerbera daisies and grooved to the Beatles in support of the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) renovation project.

Soul Survivor Band kept the dance floor active while the crowd marveled at drummers hanging from the rafters. CBS4’s Shannon Hori emceed the event and Jay Rokeach – the voice of the Florida Panthers – served as auctioneer. Live and silent auctions included an array of exciting items, such as a week on The World Residences at Sea mega yacht, a makeover from TLC’s “What Not to Wear” hairstylist Ted Gibson, a princess package complete with a Rene Ruiz gift certificate, Coomi jewelry from Neiman Marcus, a four-night stay at the Azul Beach Hotel in Mexico and spa packages.

The event raised over $650,000 for the ICU. The new, larger ICU will be a state-of-the-art space with the most sophisticated equipment. Each room will have 24-hour off-site electronic monitoring through the eICU LifeGuard program.
