The message at the IKF Circle of Heroes Luncheon: It’s so easy to become part of the Circle of Heroes and it means so much to sick children, with immediate needs. For just a pledge of $1200 a year for five years; that’s just $100 a month; or $25 a week you can become a member of the International Kids Fund (IKF) Circle of Heroes, a program of Jackson Memorial Foundation. Guests heeded the message candidly delivered by Missy Carricarte, vice chair of IKF and co-chair of the IKF Circle of Heroes, and reacted enthusiastically. “We have such a wonderful, giving community. The luncheon raised over $180,000 in new pledges,” said an elated Mariana Martinez, who chaired and underwrote the event and co-chairs the IKF Circle of Heroes.
Michy’s was packed and attendees enjoyed Chef Michelle Bernstein’s signature ham and blue cheese croquetas, white gazpacho, a magnificent chicken entrée and apple and pear tart tatin for dessert. Guests witnessed first hand IKF’s compelling mission when the mother of one of the children sponsored by IKF talked about how IKF saved her child’s life. The stories of Bladimir Gomez, who is currently awaiting surgery for Fibrous Dysplasia and Beatriz Padilla, who is currently undergoing treatment for Retinoblastoma, touched everyone’s heart. Many of the guests were moved and stepped forward to pledge their support by becoming founding members of this new group. There was also a raffle consisting of an 18 K gold Love bracelet donated by Cartier North America, a basket of fragrances and cosmetics donated by Saks 5th Avenue, Dadeland, and a six month complimentary membership package to Equinox Fitness Club at Merrick Park.
“The results of the luncheon surpassed our expectations. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident as they pledged their commitment to save children’s lives. We have 31 new Heroes” said Jorge Ortega, Chairman of IKF.
