The 2007 Greater Miami Chapter's Philanthropy Awards Luncheon, sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)—an event that began in Miami-Dade 23 years ago—was held on November 14, 2007. The sold-out event was attended by over 700 individuals who paid tribute to the honorees whose ages spanned the generations, and who have had and are still having a huge, positive impact on our community. The 2007 National Philanthropy Day Co-Chairs were Sallie Byrd and Ellen Oppenheimer.
The chapter's Lifetime Achievement Award honored Alvah and Betty Chapman, a couple who started their transformational philanthropic service to our community decades ago and still continue to help. Their service has been with caring, integrity, and wisdom and they continue to be role models for the younger generation. Jackie Nespral, NBC 6 Anchor and the event's guest emcee observed during the presentation, "Alvah, your voice may be soft, but your heart is strong."
