2nd Annual Miami Beach Polo Cup
Oversized Gucci sunglasses served a dual purpose at this year’s Miami Beach Polo Cup. Beyond protection from three days of sunny skies, they were the best way to check out sexy participants in the “Sport of Kings” without overstating the obvious. The follow-up to last year’s spectacle, produced by ACT Productions and Polo Lifestyle LLC, proved to be bigger and better.
The weekend commenced with a swanky cocktail reception at The Setai to meet the players from teams CIRCA, Klosters, Outback, Audi, KREON, and Smith & Wesson, the fragrance and culminated with the final match on Easter Sunday, featuring a face-off between husband and wife, Melissa Potamkin Ganzi on Team KREON battling her hubby Marc Ganzi on Team Audi. Team Audi seized La Martina Cup, and lucky winners took home diamond-encrusted, Swiss-crafted Catena watches.
While beachgoers surrounded the arena on the sands between 20th and 22nd Streets for a peek of the action throughout the weekend, anyone who’s anyone made an appearance in the VIP tent to enjoy free-flowing champagne, cigars courtesy of Davidoff, fashion shows by JIKI, bite-sized filet mignon from Spuntino Catering and scoops of gelato courtesy of SoFi’s La Dolce Vita. Among the crowd cheering on during the polo chukkers were TV personalities Sean Yazbeck of Apprentice 5 and Giselle Blondet; star soccer player Jose Luis Chilavert; as well as fashion designers Rene Ruiz and equestrian-hat-sporting Lei Marco.
