Mayor’s BBQ Ball

Miami-Dade County Mayor Alvarez and his daughter Brigette Alvarez with Nohemi and Pepe Lopez (Aetna)
Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez rolled up his sleeves for a down-home, fun-filled community event that celebrated the unique cultures and traditions of our community. The Mayor’s Bar-B-Que Backyard Ball raised nearly $250,000 to help improve lives in Miami-Dade through United Way.

More than 500 business and community leaders attended the event. Guests gathered at Metrozoo’s new Amazon & Beyond exhibit for an evening of music, friendship and bar-b-que classics from around the world, which included lechon, parrillada, jerk, tacos, sliders and other tasty treats.

The Mayor’s Ball began 12 years ago as way for the Mayor’s Office to promote the importance of philanthropic giving. United Way of Miami-Dade was selected as the beneficiary given its broad reach across the county and its residents.
