MIAMI BEACH, FL—May 28, 2008— Artist Erika King created a collage of angels for the Golden Angel Society’s 10th anniversary, which was unveiled at the annual recognition dinner at Joe’s Stone Crab. The art piece will be hung on a wall within the Jackson Campus. Pat Wallace, founder and chairman of the recognition society of Jackson Memorial Foundation, was surprised with a sculpture by Romero Britto of a red-headed lady (just like Wallace) for helping to make the group what it is today. Wallace was visually moved by the gesture.

Fifty-three new Golden Angels were introduced at dinner, amidst trumpet blares, and had a choice of receiving either a Boehm statue or a Van Cleef and Arpels pin, symbols of being part of this philanthropic group. Rolando Rodriguez, President and CEO of Jackson Memorial Foundation, expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone at the dinner and said “Because of the magnanimous financial contributions of the Golden Angels, Jackson is able to achieve its mission and advance its status as a world-class medical center.”

The Golden Angel Society is a major fundraising force for Jackson Memorial Foundation, a group dedicated to giving the best possible health care to all residents of Miami-Dade County. The Society began as a discussion in Wallace’s living room 10 years ago, and has grown to more than 600 members, who donate $50,000 to $5 million and more to Jackson Memorial Foundation. The recognition dinner was held for the second year at Joe’s Stone Crab and the restaurant was dedicated only to Golden Angels and their friends.

To thank these generous donors, the Jackson Memorial Foundation makes sure that when they need to come to the Campus for their own health issues, the experience is good and they are treated like royalty. What that means is that when a Golden Angel, or a member of a Golden Angel’s family, needs treatment or surgery they are literally “one signature away” from admission. All the logistics are taken care of before arrival—a personal concierge cuts through the red tape and hassle of an ordinary medical visit, and navigates them through the complicated medical system. A new Direct Access program was announced that arranges immediate air ambulance service to Jackson if needed, when Golden Angels travel outside of the United States.

Jackson Memorial Foundation is the principal fundraising arm of Jackson Health System and is dedicated to meeting the critical needs of the Jackson Memorial Medical Center and its medical staff. The Foundation has over a decade of successful projects, including the Ryder Trauma Center, Holtz Children’s Hospital, the Elizabeth and Mitchell Taylor Breast Health Center, and the Batchelor Urology Diagnostic and Treatment Center.
