Russell Simmons was in Miami during Art Basel, participating in several amazing events for the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series inspired by Rush Philanthropic and a fundraiser for Gene Spotlight. At the Gene Spotlight event, it was an Alice in Wonderland type-theme with twenty feet high back chairs and a fifty foot long table ensuring the guests a fabulous, intimate dinner with Russell. The Miami String Project with conductor Antoine Khouri wowed the crowd with a mix of classical music and hip hop songs by Drake, with a special performance by rapper/singer Anjuli Stars. Gene Spotlight, a new organization providing medical research grants for rare genetic disorders, has already received support from Van Cleef & Arpels, De Beers, the Florida Marlins, and the NBA, and its “Celebrity Ambassadors” include 1996 Olympic Gold Medal Gymnast Kerri Strug, NBA Atlanta Hawks star Etan Thomas, and MLB star Mark DeRosa of the 2010 World Series champions the San Francisco Giants.
