Some Aesthetic Decisions: Centenary Celebration of Marcel Duchamp's Fountain. One hundred years ago, Dada artist Marcel Duchamp forever changed the nature of art by anonymously submitting Fountain, 1917, a porcelain urinal signed "R. Mutt" for the exhibition of the Society of Independent Artists, New York. The show organizers' suppression of Fountain (concealed behind a petition for the show's duration) ignited a controversy that persists to today about the definition of art and who gets to pass judgment. Museum hours: Daily 11 a.m. 5 p.m.; Open until 8 p.m. the First Thursday of every month. Sunday noon 5 p.m.; Monday closed. Adults $12; seniors and military $8; students $5; free for museum members, NSU students, faculty and staff. Admission is also free every first Thursday of the month as part of Free First Thursday Starry Nights presented by PNC Bank.
