Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida’s dancers Jun Tanabe and Kaori Fukui won Silver Medals at the Korea International Ballet Competition. Both dancers were coached by ABT’s Artistic Director Maestro Vladimir Issaev.
Shake Shack, known for its beloved burgers, fries and frozen custard, recently introduced the Vice Crispy Treat to its Miami Beach menu. This new signature concrete (featuring vanilla frozen custard, marshmallow sauce and crispy crunchies) was created with Miami Children's Hospital in mind, as a portion of the proceeds benefits the hospital. To kick off the partnership, members of the Shake Shack team delivered tastes of this delicious frozen treat to patients and their families at Miami Children's Hospital, and young Jashua Alvarez (pictured) is really enjoying his treat!
Friends, students, board members and teachers of SoBe Institute of the Arts gathered in the Little Stage Theatre to show their appreciation to the LeRoy Schecter Foundation for its donation of $75,000 for a concert grand piano. The magnificent Steinway instrument was dedicated with a celebratory Mozart piano piece performed by student Angel Perez and a short concert of Liszt and Schubert piano music by professional faculty pianists Robert Chumbley and Adam Chefitz, followed by a champagne reception.
Miss Florida 2010 Jaclyn Raulerson (pictured left with Storms and Badazz volunteers) teamed up with Carol Storms, Founder of the Badazz Scholarship Foundation, and her team of Badazz volunteers to launch the Badazz Cribz Neighborhood Beautification Project. This new non-profit youth advocacy group is on a mission to inspire Miami's Inner-city youth through activism, volunteerism and scholarship. Its new project will help restore and renovate abandoned houses in Miami’s Buena Vista neighborhood, transforming blighted houses into beautiful Badazz Cribz.
Ivan Toth Depeña’s light-based installation Reflect is being permanently installed in the Stephen Clark Government Center Lobby in Downtown Miami. As a main stop in Miami’s MetroRail system, the space serves as a hub for commuters. Depeña uses sensors and light to focus on the communal nature and circulatory qualities of the lobby to incorporate the notion of daily circulation into his piece. The project was commissioned by Miami-Dade Art in Public Places.
The WGirls, an international all female volunteer organization dedicated to bettering the lives of underprivileged women and children, launched its Miami Chapter with Hello Stiletto!, a sole-inspired fundraising event in support of Lotus House Shelter. Glamour and goodwill came toe-to-toe at this primp party held at the Roy Teeluck Salon with 150 high heeled humanitarians in attendance. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Pampers Diapers showcased new and expecting fathers in a nationwide series of Father’s Day Cook Outs. Stephanie G. Brown, Ed.D. has been promoted to Vice President of Enrollment and Student Services at Nova Southeastern University (Nova). The announcement was made by Nova chancellor Ray Ferrero, Jr., J.D., who said, “Dr. Brown’s promotion is a reflection of her exceptional leadership, dedication and the quality of her teams’ work. Our students will continue to receive excellent care under her leadership.”
Miami Beach Vice-Mayor Michael Gongora was presented with an Honorary Doctorate degree from the University Libera Facolta’ di Scienze Turistiche located in Caserta, Italy, for his efforts to promote cultural tourism between Miami Beach and Italy. Miami’s new generation of lawyers gathered on South Beach for Legal Services of Greater Miami‘s Club Night, a fabulous evening of music and dancing at Louis Bar-Lounge in the Gansevoort Hotel. The event was held in partnership with the Gwen S. Cherry and Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. Bar Associations to support EQUAL JUSTICE. Co-chairs were Olanike Adebayo and Jennifer Ellis, former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Betty T. Ferguson was guest speaker, and Rico Love was emcee.
