Dads Making a Difference
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Pampers Diapers showcased new and expecting fathers in a nationwide series of Father’s Day Cook Outs. In Miami, leading dads who are making a difference in the community were selected for this special Father’s Day event, including: Mario Manuel Cristobal, head coach of the FIU football team; Michael Grieco of BNI Premier; Russ Koonin of Ferraro Law Firm; Dan Sweeney, editor of City Link magazine; Matt Pack of Primal Fit Miami; David Bernard of Miami International Wine Fair; and Eduardo Hapke, publisher of Hispanic Target. Stephanie G. Brown, Ed.D. has been promoted to Vice President of Enrollment and Student Services at Nova Southeastern University (Nova). The announcement was made by Nova chancellor Ray Ferrero, Jr., J.D., who said, “Dr. Brown’s promotion is a reflection of her exceptional leadership, dedication and the quality of her teams’ work. Our students will continue to receive excellent care under her leadership.”

Miami Beach Vice-Mayor Michael Gongora was presented with an Honorary Doctorate degree from the University Libera Facolta’ di Scienze Turistiche located in Caserta, Italy, for his efforts to promote cultural tourism between Miami Beach and Italy. Legal Services' Club Night Supports Equal Justice
Miami’s new generation of lawyers gathered on South Beach for Legal Services of Greater Miami‘s Club Night, a fabulous evening of music and dancing at Louis Bar-Lounge in the Gansevoort Hotel. The event was held in partnership with the Gwen S. Cherry and Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. Bar Associations to support EQUAL JUSTICE. Co-chairs were Olanike Adebayo and Jennifer Ellis, former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Betty T. Ferguson was guest speaker, and Rico Love was emcee. Charity and a Full Moon
More than 200 people gathered under the full moon at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale for a glamorous and fun Full Moon party. Partygoers danced and mingled and enjoyed specialty cocktails, bar bites and music by DJ Rob Riggs. The event was a benefit for SOS Children's Villages of Florida with donations of hundreds of school supplies and close to $1,000. The monthly event boasts no cover charge, no velvet rope, $5 valet parking, and reasonably priced bar bites and cocktails. Pictured: Ron and Joy Adams.

Xavier Cortada Named Director of ETSCA
Miami artist Xavier Cortada will serve as founding director of the Office of Engaged Teaching, Scholarship and Creative Activities (ETSCA) at Florida International University's College of Architecture + The Arts. Located at FIU’s new space on Lincoln Road and opening this fall, ETSCA will offer hands-on experience for FIU students. The new office is tasked with fully utilizing the talents of the faculty and students in the visual arts, performing arts, and design specialties to engage with the local South Florida community in collaborative problem-solving initiatives.

Miami Lighthouse Receives Grant
Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired CEO Virginia Jacko receives a check from the American Optometric Association (AOA). The grant was awarded through AOA’s 2011 Healthy Eyes Healthy People® Community Grant Program and will be used to create tri-lingual brochures and educational material about the importance of early intervention and eye examinations for children, targeting parents, school officials and community leaders.

The Loco Coco Smash is the Winner!
Miami mixologist Michael Parish (pictured) competed against some of the best bartenders in South Florida and was named winner of the first-ever Tequila Partida Spirit Bird Challenge. Parish’s original cocktail The Loco Coco Smash won on the basis of presentation, originality and taste, and he went home with the first-place title and $500.

NWSA Welcomes New Dean of Dance
Mary Lisa Burns has been selected as New World School of the Art’s new dean of dance. She succeeds Dean Daniel Lewis to head the high school and college dance programs. Burns, a dance educator and administrator, comes to Miami from New York City where she was Director of Education for the Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation, overseeing the Cunningham Studio's accredited Professional Training Program and spearheading its Educational Outreach program.

PetNet Parties at SET Nightclub
More than 100 guests enjoyed a unique wine tasting at SET Nightclub to benefit PetNet, the Humane Society of Greater Miami’s young professional group. The fabulous Miami Heat Dancers (pictured) put in a special appearance, mingling with guests, posing for photos and signing autographs. In addition to tasting a variety of reds, guests participated in a fabulous raffle that included dinners, Miami Heat memorabilia, an Equinox gym membership, and weekend and spa packages at favorite Miami hotels.
