Etra Fine Art in the Design District hosted ‘The Art of A Cure’ fundraiser in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), South Florida Chapter. The cocktail and silent auction event was attended by about 100 people.“My goal was to raise $10000, but we exceeded it to raise over $12000,” says event organizer Nicole Hernandez. “Once I educated myself about the disease and learned how insulin affects my body, I started to change my lifestyle and focus on spreading the word about Type 1 Diabetes.”
Invited guests enjoyed the kick-off luncheon for the 4th annual Limo to Lunch benefitting the Florida Heart Research Institute. The kick-off was held in the Lifestyle Center of Whole Foods in Coral Gables. Cooking demonstrations of the salad and meal courses were demonstrated by Chefs Miriam Alicea and Susie Boronat. Guests were taught how to make a fantastic healthy dessert. Brian, the in-house Sommelier was on hand to discuss wine pairings and of course pour the wine. The full menu was from the store’s Health Starts Here program.
Christophe Maincourt has been elected President of the French-American Chamber of Commerce of Miami. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School and started his career in the luxury products industry in 1981, in the field of International Development with Parfums Christian Dior Paris (LVMH Group). Recruited by Cartier, Maincourt was based in Hong-Kong where he opened the China and India markets. He moved to Miami as President and CEO for Cartier in the western hemisphere, and was responsible for overseeing the whole of Latin America. After 20 years with Cartier, Maincourt founded his own business, Resource Management International, to distribute and promote luxury goods in the Americas and Asia Pacific areas.
BankAtlantic donated 120 “Disney on Ice: 100 Years of Magic” tickets to 7 different local children’s charities, schools and non-profit organizations when the show appeared at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, FL, from September 15 through September 18, 2011. Jessica June Children’s Cancer Foundation provides emergency financial assistance for children fighting cancer to ensure access to basic human necessities. They also advocate for and raise awareness of childhood cancer.
Art and Culture Center of Hollywood Executive Director Joy A. Satterlee, APR, has received Florida Association of Museum’s (FAM) Service Award for Outstanding Mid-Career Professional. Since becoming Executive Director of the Center in April 2005, the Center has increased its number of gallery exhibitions from an average of five shows per year to 16 gallery exhibitions in 2010-11, which includes the prestigious 23rd Annual South Florida Cultural Consortium Exhibition. FAM’s annual awards competition recognizes outstanding contributions by individuals to the museum profession in the State of Florida.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade celebrated a historic groundbreaking ceremony for its new 11,000-sq.-ft. state-of-the-art Club in Miami Beach.The celebration was attended by Miami Beach Mayor Matti Herrera Bower, various Miami Beach commissioners, and Olga Guilarte, president of the Board of Directors of Boys & Girls Club of Miami-Dade. Representatives of Bank of America and Fisher Island Philanthropic Fund, two of the project’s donors, were also at the event. The new club was completed by June 2011, which features a teen center, state of the art computer lab, teaching kitchen for children, homework rooms, games rooms and a creative arts room, and serves approximately 400 children from the local area.
CLUB 2-1-1 hosted a fabulous Connecting Event for over one hundred local businesspeople, notables and philanthropists at China Grill in the Hilton Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday, September 13. Sandra Bernard-Bastien of Children’s Services Council of Broward, Nancy Merolla of BankAtlantic and Jason Neufeld of Neufeld, Kleinberg & Pinkiert, P.A. served as both CLUB 2-1-1 Ambassadors and Guest Speakers for the event which was underwritten by CAREERXCHANGE. Guests enjoyed an evening of networking, cocktails and a delicious array of hors d’oeuvres from China Grill.
The Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance (Orange Bowl YFA) presented by Sports Authority visited four sites on Saturday, September 17 as part of its Park of the Week program. The Orange Bowl YFA Park of the Week program presented by Sports Authority recognizes select youth football teams across South Florida each Saturday during the fall. Oak Grove Raiders Coach Joel Sejour was honored with the Sports Authority Coaches Kit in recognition of his outstanding dedication, commitment and coaching over the course of the season. Coach Sejour continues to impact the lives of his players and makes a positive impact on the National Youth Football League.
The famous hitmaker of "Inner Sanctum Mysteries," "Grand Central Station," and "Dick Tracy," Himan Brown, continues to leave his mark through the Himan Brown Charitable Trust. Last week a gift of $650,000 was made to UHealth Pediatrics to support the operation of the Pediatric Mobile Clinic. This will harvest the continuation of quality health care from a UHealth medical team to hundreds of mostly uninsured children who live throughout Miami Dade's most at risk communities.
Tobias Ostrander has been appointed chief curator and deputy director for curatorial affairs at Miami Art Museum (MAM). Ostrander has nearly two decades of experience at some of the world's top arts institutions, including El Museo Experimental del ECO and Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporaneo, both located in Mexico City. His appointment to MAM's chief curatorial post comes as the Museum prepares for the move to its new facility in downtown Miami's Museum Park, scheduled to open in 2013.
