Johnson & Wales University’s North Miami Campus hosted the third annual ZEST™ Awards to showcase and honor leaders in culinary arts within Miami in eight categories.
Five categories including Best Restaurant, Best Bar/Lounge, Culinary Innovator, Newcomer of the Year, and Baking and Pastry Innovator were selected by the ZEST Awards judging panel, which included faculty from the JWU College of Culinary Arts and local hospitality leaders. The Reader’s Choice Award for Best Food Blogger was selected by community vote and the University leadership identified honorees for the Community Leader and the Legacy Awards, which highlight those who have had an impact on the local community.
The event, which featured food and beverages created and executed by Johnson & Wales University’s North Miami Campus students, attracted culinary and community leaders including Timon Balloo (Sugarcane & Bocce Bar), Steve Sawitz and Andre Beinvenu (Joe’s Stone Crab), Aaron Brooks (Edge Steak and Bar), Jamie DeRosa (Tongue & Cheek), Richard Ingraham (personal chef to NBA superstar Dwyane Wade), John Kunkel (50 Eggs Inc.), Gary Sanon-Jules (Oak Tavern), Zak Stern (Zak the Baker), Allen Susser (Chef Allen’s Consulting), and Ricardo Trillos (Cao Chocolatier).
