Hundreds of volunteers, supporters and partner agencies celebrated the work of United Way of Miami-Dade at its Annual Meeting and Volunteer Awards Ceremony. Four community leaders and one outstanding young person - Michael Bittel, T. Willard Fair, Maria Tejera, Sen. René Garcia and Miami-Dade County Public Schools student Kimberly Foreiter - whose works have had real impact in our community were honored, and a new slate of officers, directors and trustees were elected. Highlights of United Way’s year include: 359 workplaces ran United Way campaigns with nearly 60,000 people contributing; children at 358 Miami-Dade County Public Schools exemplified the meaning of giving back; volunteers gave 13,254 hours of their time and talent; 3,551 local early education professionals received training; 3,318 people received financial education and counseling; people saved $2 million on prescription drugs; and 9,430 older adults received services that allowed them to continue living independently.
