Business mogul and philanthropist Miguel “Mike” Benito Fernandez presented his book, Humbled by the Journey: Life Lessons For My Family… And Yours at The SEED School of Miami. Students, staff, families, and community members gathered at the Lou Rawls Center for the Performing Arts at Florida Memorial University to hear Mike’s captivating life story. Dr. Rosalyn Artis, President of Florida Memorial University, welcomed guests with a reminder for the Miami community that “Mike’s story is our story.” After an introduction from former Miami Herald publisher Dave Lawrence, Mike proceeded to take the audience on an inspirational journey—on a 508 mile pilgrimage along El Camino de Santiago; from France to Spain; and from a dirt road Cuban town to the pinnacle of U.S. business success. In his book, Mike reveals the lessons that he has learned over a lifetime of working tirelessly, overcoming obstacles and “showing up.” Students listened, rapt, as Mike shared the most important lesson: “You have to take care of those who come after you.”
