The fabulous Love and Hope Committee kicked off its 37th fundraising season for the Diabetes Research Institute at the Love and Hope Preview Party. Held again at the Diplomat Country Club, the magnificent evening affair was generously underwritten by Isabel May for the 8th consecutive year. Life Chairman Sonja Zuckerman and Executive Chairman Sandra Levy welcomed nearly 150 guests, thanking them for their continued loyalty, which was proven when the evening’s contributions to the DRI added up to more than $400,000. Guests enjoyed cocktails and lavish hors d’oeuvres amidst lavender Makara orchids, pink roses, satin bows, ice sculptures and beautiful models wearing exquisite jewels by Neiman Marcus. In the Grand Ballroom, striking in its black and white décor, guests dined and danced with the backdrop of gigantic flowers in black vases topping each table. Sonja announced that the 37th annual Love and Hope Ball will be held on February 19, 2011 at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood. She recognized each of the Honorees: Honorary Chairmen Sharon Gustafson and Barry Florescue; Love Honorees Sandy and Senator Paul Steinberg; Hope Honorees Pamula and Jim Schlesinger and Elizabeth Romero; the first-ever Community Leader Honorees Donna and George Zoley of The GEO Group; and Gold Star Shirley Harris.
