VIDEO: Site Specific Performance Series

Design District presents an evening in four acts

“Kudos,” said Knight Foundation’s Dennis Scholl. Others referred to the evening as avant garde, as the Miami Design District presented the inaugural Site-Specific Performance Series.

The night could not have been better. On a full moon third Saturday, three of Miami’s top organizations presented four acts in three different locations. The evening began in the 4141 Building with the Young Artists of Florida Grand Opera. The dynamic performance filled the atrium with the human voice as onlookers surrounded the action.

The audience then went mobile and headed to the second floor space in the Garden Building where the Miami Theater Center presented two acts from their SandBox Series. The action began with an excellent scene from the upcoming, original play, Paradise Motel by Juan C. Sanchez. Next, Juraj Kojs filled the space with an eclectic array of sound and movement powered by multiple hand blowers.

The finale featured fellows from the New World Symphony performing three modern pieces in the rooftop garden. The intimate concert came on the heels of two performances the fellows had already played that day.

The night ended with DJ Mike Sike spinning beats and improvising with two New World Symphony fellows.

Liquor was provided throughout the evening by Grey Goose.

The next installment of Site Specific is slated for April 19 featuring four new and exciting 20 minute acts.
