Joe Adler Named Champion of the Arts by CIA

Joe Adler, one of the most significant figures in the South Florida theater industry, will add CIA's Champion of the Arts Award to his already long list of awards and honors, including 59 Carbonell Awards, a Clio, a Remy, a Silver Palm, and the prestigious George Abbott Award.

Citizens Interested in the Arts, an 18-year-old non-profit that raises funds to benefit visual and performing arts, will bestow Adler's newest honor at a gala luncheon at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables on January 24.

Currently Producing Artistic Director at GableStage, Adler has previously directed at Coconut Grove Playhouse, New Theatre, Area Stage, Hollywood Boulevard Theatre, Players Theatre, Ruth Foreman Theatre, Florida Shakespeare Theatre, City Theatre, Hollywood Playhouse and Shores Performing Arts. Active in South Florida’s film and theatre community for many years, he has directed hundreds of television commercials and industrial films, along with independent feature films, a video version of the Broadway hit comedy "Doubles" and a cable TV series. Besides winning 59 Carbonell Awards, he has received 197 Carbonell nominations, and was awarded the George Abbott Award for “significant contributions to the artistic life and cultural development of Greater Miami, Fort Lauderdale and the Palm Beaches.” He has received many Best Director awards. as well as "The Heart of the Arts Award" by New World School of the Arts.

Hollis Freimark, President of Citizens Interested in Arts, said, "Joe Adler was selected because he epitomizes a true champion of the arts as one of South Florida’s biggest arts advocates.” Adler's consistently outstanding work at GableStage and his longstanding commitment to an Educational Outreach Program in Miami-Dade County are legendary. He was recently appointed to the Dean’s Leadership Advisory Board at Florida International University’s College of Architecture + The Arts. He is also spearheading the refurbishing and relaunch of the former Coconut Grove regional theater.
