And mentors young artists at Gen-Next Jam on February 14

Carmen Lundy
Pinecrest Gardens’ South Motors Jazz Series continues with the Carmen Lundy Quintet on Saturday, February 13.

Carmen Lundy began her professional career in Miami as a jazz vocalist and composer when there were very few young, gifted and aspiring jazz vocalists on the horizon. Over four decades later, she is celebrated throughout the world for her vocal artistry and is highly regarded for her jazz innovation. Lundy’s 14th album, “Soul to Soul,” features all original compositions and has been met with great fanfare. She travels to the Pinecrest Gardens’ stage from Los Angeles along with her world renowned quintet for an evening of some of the best jazz this city will ever hear.

Tickets are $25 and $30 and can be purchased online or by calling ticket services at 1-877-496-8499.

Through the generosity of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation along with special funding from title sponsor South Motors, Carmen Lundy and her band will also participate in a special program entitled Gen-Next Jam, a music mentorship program held on Sunday afternoon, February 14, at 2 p.m. Lundy and band members will mentor a group of gifted jazz students from the New World School of the Arts High School under the direction of Jim Gasior. This is a unique opportunity for young artists to learn from and play with these extraordinary professionals on the Banyan Bowl stage. This workshop series is open to the general public and other students for observation free of charge.
