The Cancer Support Community is a place where both patients and family members find support, education and hope. The organization does not offer medical treatments, alternative treatments or hospice care. Its services are provided as a compliment to conventional treatment, and anyone undergoing any kind of cancer care is welcome. Every program is offered free of charge, and all are lead by professionals licensed in their fields of expertise. The comfortable, homelike environment at the Cancer Support Community Greater Miami makes sharing and mutual support easy.

The 2012 Champion of the Human Spirit Award is designed to honor a cancer survivor or support person, and this year the honor will be given to Jennifer Stearns Buttrick.
Jennifer Stearns Buttrick
Jennifer Stearns Buttrick is Of Counsel and Director of Pro Bono and Community Service to the firm of Stearns, Weaver, Miller, Weissler, Alhadeff & Sitterson, P.A Prior to taking on this role, she practiced in the Litigation Department, where she handled commercial litigation at the trial and appellate levels.
She serves on the University of Miami / Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Community Board of Governors, Founders Board and was the 2009 and 2011 Designed for a Cure Event Chair. Jennifer also served as the Sponsorship Chair of the 2010 Gala and was on the 2008 Gala Committee. She also serves on the Advisory Board of the Dolphins Cycling Challenge, an annual event that benefits Sylvester.
Buttrick's other affiliations and recognitions include: Vice President, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden; 2009, 2011 and 2012 Chair of the New World Symphony’s It’s a Family Affair; past board member, Junior League of Miami and Junior League of Miami Foundation; Lawyers for Children America, former Chair of the Regional Leadership Counsel; former board member, The Reclamation Project 2008‐2010; notes and comments editor, Florida State University Law Review; Voices for Children 2009 Corporate Leadership Award recipient; Junior League of Miami 2006 Rebecca Herndon Bush Award recipient; The Gordon Schools of Beth David Congregation, Past School Board Chair 2007‐2008, Parents’ Association Chair 2006‐2007; and American Heart Association, Executive Leadership Team, 2010 and 2011 Heart and Stroke Ball.
The Champion of the Community Spirit Award is designed to honor a recipient who is an example of the best sense of “community” – one who joins and unites others in a greater good. The 2012 honoree is SAP International.
