DCOTA 2011 DesignHouse
Film + Design : The Golden Age of Hollywood

Once again, The Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) is stepping to the forefront of the interior design community with its second annual DesignHouse.

Featuring 20 breathtaking installations from some of South Florida’s most creative minds in design, the 2011 DesignHouse is entitled Film + Design: The Golden Age of Hollywood. The topic forges a dialogue between the creative disciplines of film and design as well as reveals the visual impact that environments have in telling a story.

“Each firm chooses a film to inspire their room design,” says Ashlee Harrison, director of marketing for DCOTA. “It’s very inspiring and nostalgic, so when you’re walking the room, there is going to be something that you connect with.”

This year’s DesignHouse combines emerging talent like Josh Wollowick with established design names like Fanny Haim, Deborah Wecselman and many more. These design stars have all come together to create an exhibition that flows with creativity and forward thinking set in the context of iconic glamour that was specific to the 30’s and 40’s.

Of course each of the pieces used come from DCOTA’s breadth of showrooms that feature the very best in furniture design, flooring, technology and fabric. A fascinating element of the DesignHouse is the use of interactive technology that will enable visitors to experience the creative mindset of each designer and learn about the materials used through flat panel touch screens positioned at the entrance of each installation.

A VIP preview and gala will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at DCOTA’s A Building Atrium and DesignHouse to celebrate the debut of the showcase. Guests will have the exclusive opportunity to be the first to view the show, meet the design committee and enjoy Hollywood-inspired entertainment and hors d’oeuvres. Notably, a 200 piece retrospective by Hollywood photographer Greg Gorman, “Greg Gorman: A Distinct Vision 1970-2010,” will also be open for viewing during the festivities. Tickets are $100, with one hundred percent of proceeds benefitting three of South Florida’s unparalleled cultural institutions: The Wolfsonian Museum (Miami), The Museum of Art/ Fort Lauderdale (Broward) and The Palm Beach County Cultural Council (Palm Beach). Call 954-920-7997 to buy tickets.

DesignHouse is open for public viewing from Wednesday, January 19 through Friday, July 15, 2011. Additional programming and events will be featured throughout the run of show including screenings, lectures, luncheons, presentations and private tours.
