Help make this House a Home for the Holidays

With the holidays upon us, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of South Florida has a special request. Help them make their house a Home for the Holidays!

This year, RMHC will celebrate its 10th Annual Home for the Holidays fundraiser event on December 7th from 6 to 9 p.m. at their Fort Lauderdale House. The event will help raise funds for seriously ill children and their families staying at the two Ronald McDonald Houses of South Florida. A lighting ceremony will kick off the event, with each light representing a donation of $25, which covers one night’s stay for a family.

The Ronald McDonald House is helping families like Maldonado Espinoza, whose 10-year old son has been suffering from Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) since he was four months old. MSUD is a metabolism disorder in which the body cannot break down certain parts of proteins. His condition became complicated, and he later developed Cerebral Palsy, which is a group of disorders that involve brain and nervous system functions, such as movement, learning, hearing, seeing, and thinking. The family came from Honduras this past November and currently lives at the Ronald McDonald Miami House while their son receives treatment at nearby medical facilities.

Donations can also be made to the “Share a Night” fund, which helps cover the cost for a family who cannot afford to stay at the Miami or Fort Lauderdale House. RMHC does not turn any family away if they are not able to pay! Over 68% of the families can’t afford to make contributions, and the “Share a Night” fund enables RMHC to continue serving all families in need. It also helps cover the difference between the costs of hosting a family ($75 for one night) and the $20 donation we ask for one night to keep the electricity flowing, pantries stocked and much more. By donating $20 (for one night), $140 (for one week) or $600 (for one month) of lodging, you are enabling RMHC to continue helping families.

Create a wonderful sense of togetherness, tradition, and joy — all so important for children and families whose worlds have been clouded by heartache and worry. Share the joy and blessings of the season with children and their families who are fighting a disease. This has always been a priority for RMHC during the holidays – please make it yours, too and donate to this wonderful cause.
