SocialMiami Goes Live!
By Amanda Del Duca
July is about to get a whole lot hotter. International media, celebrities, industry insiders, fashionistas and bikini clad models are set to take over Miami Beach this week for the fifth Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim and Swim Show 2010.
Annually these events coincide to celebrate the best swimwear designs in the world, and SocialMiami will be there with all access coverage, live! Through Twitter, SocialMiami will cover the hottest shows in the chicest locations, the sultry after-parties, the must-have pieces from each collection and everything in between. Follow SocialMiami on Twitter to get up to-the-minute tweets with pictures and details from inside the shows.
Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week Swim, produced by IMG Fashion, is presented annually at The Raleigh Hotel. The invitation only event will hold runway shows by 20 of the world’s leading swimwear and resort collection designers.
Held at three venues - Cabana Grande, Beachway and Oasis - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim will present designs from Tibi, Caffé Swimwear, Marysia Swim, Crystal Jin, ANK by Mirla Sabino, True Religion Swimwear, Red Carter, Aqua di Lara, Tori Praver Swimwear, Mara Hoffman, Ed Hardy Swimwear, White Sands Australia, Poko Pano, Xtra Life LYCRA, Vitamin A, Cia.Marítima, Luli Fama and V Del Sol.
Boheme Boutique’s poolside show kicks off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim as the first boutique ever to present at the event. The show will showcase current looks from Kenzo, Pinup, Delfina, Anna Kosturova, Sundek (men’s) with accessories by Flora Bella and Moyna. Boheme Boutique’s owner Edit Meurrens integrated herself in the fashion industry as a fashionista, buyer, designer muse and now boutique owner.
Red Carter, Vitamin A, True Religion and Tibi are local favorites but the hottest and most anticipated show is L*Space by Monica Wise, the “Mercedes-Benz Presents” designer of the year. Previous designers have included Red Carter, Monique Lhuillier, Badgley Mischka and Chado Ralph Rucci.
L*Space bikinis are known for incredible quality and cuts that fit. Wise is noted for her innovative approach to swimwear design, like 18k gold hardware and colored gems. Her 2010 collection is said to have floral prints, nautical and 80s inspired suits.
L*Space by Monica Wise will also showcase a capsule collection with OmniPeace to donate 25 percent of profits to charities promoting peace, human rights, education and the end of extreme poverty in Africa by 2025.
Swim Show 2010 starts Thursday and is the industry’s largest trade show. Located in the Miami Beach Convention Center the event showcases 350 exhibitors representing almost 2,000 lines. The trade show is a four-day platform for retailers and manufactures to discover current trends, explore pricing, place orders and preview entire collections.
