MOCA's Fundraiser Promises A Dreamy Night

The Museum of Contemporary Art’s Bohemian Bash fundraiser on February 20 promises to be a night filled with surprises. To help shape the vibe and environment of the evening, MOCA has enlisted four of Miami’s artists -- Kevin Arrow, Bhakti Baxter, Beatriz Monteavaro, and Wendy Wischer -- to create exciting dreamlike settings that celebrate the spirit of creativity. Guests will find themselves in an upside down lounge with dangling furniture, an out of this world indoor garden, and a night club that fetes the irrational.

great party -- cocktails, dancing, music, delicious food, and performance -- plus, a big dash of the unconventional. Artist Bhakti Baxter, who is helping art direct the evening’s dreamlike elements, notes that the Bohemian Bash borrows from Dadaist art events of the early 20th Century that included surreal happenings and performances such as those at the legendary Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich in which artists and writers let their subconscious serve as their guide as they experimented with new art forms and alternative realities. In his own work, Baxter investigates the territory between science and spirituality, and brings to mind the intricate and symmetrical world of nature translated geometrically.
Artist Kevin Arrow, who works in a wide range of mediums in his own multi-media works, says he, Baxter, Monteavaro, and Wischer looked for ways to “translate the theme of irrational delights into visually enticing settings.” Arrow will project imagery from his archive of 35mm slides and 16mm films during the evening. MOCA’s galleries will be transformed into rooms that will take guests underwater, engage their senses with Op Art, and stimulate their imaginations.
MOCA’s Bohemian Bash is chaired by Barbara Z. Herzberg and Alan and Diane Lieberman. Honorary Chair is Belkys Nerey.
