MIAMI short Film Festival - November 6 - 11

Kicks Off its 16th Year!

The 16th edition of the MIAMI Short Film Festival, November 6 through 11, will showcase over 80 short films at 14 unique screenings throughout the week, along with interviews, director Q&A sessions, and the awards ceremony on Saturday night to cap off the week. Screenings will take place at the Cinepolis Theatre in Coconut Grove and the Miami Beach Cinematheque.

For it’s 16th year, MIAMIsFF selected its shorts from thousands of submissions, sent from dozens of countries around the globe. Every screening this year is unique, and they range from showcasing Miami’s local talent at the two Local Flavor screenings, to an entire selection of shorts from Iranian filmmakers. Highlight’s from this year include two music videos from renowned artist Oren Lavie and a short from Peruvian actor/singer Christian Meier.
One new aspect this year is the free opening night kickoff event, which takes place at New World Symphony’s Soundscape Park on Miami Beach. MIAMIsFF planned the event to introduce a larger part of the community to the festival and short films. The Monday night event begins at 7 p.m. and is free to everyone with seating on a first-come first-serve basis.

Director and Founder William Vela is very pleased with how the festival has grown over the years. “We started this 16 years ago as just one small screening for a group of friends, and it has expanded into a week-long festival with our monthly events that keep the festival going year-round.” Vela's goal with the festival is to always shine a light on the art of short filmmaking and share this with the local and global community of South Florida.
MIAMI short Film Festival would not be possible without the support of The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners, the City of Miami Beach Department of Tourism and Cultural Development, Office of Cultural Affairs, and the Miami Beach Mayor and City Commissioners, Polaroid Eyewear, Cocowalk, Coconut Grove Business Improvement District, Coconut Grove Arts Festival, Landa & Associates, Whitewall Media, Film Freeway, Withoutabox, Wallery, Culture Owl, Body & Brain, Miami Beach Cinematheque, and Cinepolis.
