Fruit and Spice Park
Established in 1944, the Fruit & Spice Park is a tropical paradise surrounded by thousands of acres of tropical agriculture. A showcase for South Florida’s agriculture community, the 40-acre park has more than 500 varieties of exotic fruits, herbs, spices and nuts from throughout the world. Be sure to visit the herb and vegetable garden, stroll through a shady banana grove or become more knowledgeable about poisonous plants.
This unique public garden is the one of its kind in the United States and since Hurricane Andrew in 1992, a redevelopment plan has been instituted. The currently evolving landscape plan calls for more trees, a lake, and many other landscape features and structures. The new garden has been divided into ethnic theme areas. Plantings exhibit Tropical America, Tropical Asia, Tropical Africa, Australia, the Pacific and the Mediterranean. Botanical collections will include a Fiber, Dye and Latex Section, a Banana Mango and Bamboo Collection, as well as Poisonous Plant and Custard Apple collection.
Park Services
The Park provides expert advice on gardening with fruits, vegetables and spices. They’ll help you find plants, as well as provide information on care and harvesting. Visitors can sample fallen fruits (no fruits may be picked from the trees or removed from the park) and arrangements can be made with management for collecting seeds and cuttings suitable for planting. An extensive list of tropical fruit nurseries and comprehensive reference books are also available.
Park Store
Visitors are invited to browse through our park store which is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Merchandise that is available year round includes: dried and canned fruit, juices, jams, and jellies, aromatic teas, unusual seeds, cold fruit juices, a wonderful selection of cookbooks, gardening and reference books on tropical fruits and vegetables, and specialized horticultural supplies. Our knowledgeable and friendly staff is eager to make your visit an enjoyable and educational experience.
Tours
Guided tours are conducted daily at 11:00 a.m., 1:30 and 3:00 p.m.
