The Florida Memorial University Gala Committee will present
A Night to Remember, FMU’s Fourth Annual President’s Scholarship Gala. This year the fundraiser will be hosted by an Honorary Gala Committee including the Honorable Carrie P. Meek, honorary committee chair and former congresswoman; Alberto M. Carvalho, superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools; Sheldon T. Anderson, president and CEO of Northern Trust - Southeast Region; Gepsie M. Metellus, executive director of Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center; and Dexter A. Bridgeman, founder and CEO of Success South Florida Magazine.

International recording artist Nicole Henry will take the stage for a command vocal performance during this event that supports the Florida Memorial University Student Scholarship Fund. Sponsors, supporters, and volunteers will also be honored for their service and dedication to the University. The occasion will be emceed by WPLG Local 10 news reporter Constance Jones, and the University’s famed music ensembles are slated to perform throughout the evening.

“The Gala enables us to showcase our fine student body to our sponsors,” stated interim president Sandra T. Thompson, Ph.D. “This past year has been one of the most productive in the institution’s history. From expanding international partnerships to breaking ground on our Living and Learning Residence Halls, the Gala is an extension of our mission to garner financial resources necessary in equipping our students for the future,” she continued.

Though additional guests will be announced in the approaching weeks, this year’s distinguished honorees have been named, and they are: Alumni of the Year Award to Estelle Taylor, Class of 1964; Carrie P. Meek Philanthropist Award to Stephen H. Greenberg, Founder and CEO, Stephen H. Greenberg & Associates; Volunteer Award to Calvin Hughes, WPLG Local 10 news anchor; and the Corporate Partner Award to AT & T – Florida.

Individual tickets for the gala are $150 and must be purchased by October 15. Tables and sponsorship opportunities are still available, and anyone interested should call 305-623-1446 for further details.
