Party and make a difference at the American Nicaraguan Foundation’s annual fundraising gala at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown Miami. Chaired by Theresa Pellas, Maria Amanda Rodriguez and Paco Bendaña-McEwan, the night promises to be exciting and fun with special guest Taliana Vargas, Miss Colombia 2008 and first runner-up at the Miss Universe pageant, and Samatha Tajik, Miss Canada 2008. Honorary Gala Chairs are Ricardo and Marlene Montaner, and the evening’s emcees are Diana Diaz from WSVN Chanel 7 and Ivan Taylor from Telemundo Chanel 51.

One lucky guest will win the ultimate raffle prize, a “Cat’s Eye” woman’s timepiece graciously donated by Girard-Perragaux, a proud sponsor of ANF. Helping to make the 2008 Gala a success are gala sponsors: Cuban Crafters Cigars, Santander Private Banking, HSBC, Stanford Group Company, Flor de Caña (Nicaragua’s Rum), The Himmel-Anton Foundation, AirPak, VISA International, Anheuser-Busch, Total Bank, Vanidades, Credomatic Network, and Harper’s Bazaar en Español to name a few.

The upcoming ANF gala will raise funds to cover the foundation's yearly operating expenses, which represents only 0.5 percent of its annual budget. The gala also serves as an excellent opportunity to bring ANF’s supporters from all over the world together to celebrate their hard work and accomplishments.

About American Nicaraguan Foundation

The American Nicaraguan Foundation (ANF) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1992 by Nicaraguan philanthropists, Alfredo and Theresita Pelles, to help the neediest sectors of Nicaragua in the areas of health care, housing, nutrition, education and sustainable development. Programs are carried out by 2,864 local organizations which receive ANF donations with the support of the local private and public sectors. One of ANF’s most ambitious projects is the house-building program. In 2007 ANF built 1,842 homes across Nicaragua and since January 1, 2008, ANF is responsible for nearly 250 containers sent to Nicaragua for the construction of 849 homes.

ANF is committed to keeping administrative expenses under 1% of the total revenue, a commitment that has granted ANF important recognition among its peers.

American Nicaraguan Foundation is wholeheartedly committed to empowering local communities throughout Nicaragua. The intention is not so much to play the role of caregiver, but to actively work to empower the marginalized sectors of Nicaraguan society.

By recognizing that each human life is equal in worth and meaning regardless of race, gender, social and economic standing, ANF arduously works to achieve sustainable development in Nicaragua by promoting self sufficiency and autonomy. Its goal is to eradicate the incessant poverty in Nicaragua by working to develop support programs in education, nutrition, housing and healthcare.

With this goal in mind, ANF has created programs aimed at fostering increased opportunity, self sufficiency and dignity for the poor in Nicaragua. For more information, visit www.aidnicaragua.org.
