The Archdiocese of Miami’s Concert on the Bay Benefitted Two Educational Programs

Bunny Bastian and Terry Buoniconti

Marina Alonso-Mendoza, Archbishop John C. Favalora, Bunny Bastian, Emilio Alonso-Mendoza, and Bud Farrey

Over 400 guests enjoyed a Concert on the Bay hosted by the Archdiocese of Miami at the magnificent Coral Gables home of philanthropist Bunny Bastian. It was a star-studded night with clear skies, a full moon and just a slight nip in the air so that some of the ladies could don their furs, making for a most glamorous evening. The evening began with a champagne reception, where guests mingled and enjoyed an array of delicious hors d'oeuvres provided by Thierry's Catering. Seating for the concert was set up on the covered pool under the stars where guests were mesmerized with musical selections performed by the celebrated Cleveland Orchestra Miami Residency and the incredible ambiance.

Before the concert, Emilio Alonso-Mendoza, president of the Archdiocese Development Corporation, greeted everyone and introduced Bunny Bastian, who welcomed the guests to her home and thanked them for their support. Archbishop John Clement Favalora emphasized the importance of helping the Marian Center and the Leadership Learning Center, the two beneficiaries of the event. The Leadership Learning Center's Mirta Fuentes and Marian Center's Melanie Gomez invited the guests to tour their respective facilities.

After the concert guests were directed to the property's waterfront area for dinner and dancing. Centerpieces were provided by Robbe and Berking, making the table settings look like a royal affair. It was a magical evening, one that comes along once in a blue moon—or in this case, a full moon.

The Marian Center provides educational, residential, clinical, vocational and recreational services to over 150 students and adults with developmental disabilities ranging in age from birth through middle adulthood. The Leadership Learning Center at St. John Bosco Church, an after school program, enables children to reach their academic potential by addressing all of the challenges in each child's home life, with a goal of producing leaders who will then give back to their community.
